Frequently asked questions

What is a delivery note?

A delivery note accompanies goods sent to a customer and records what was delivered. The customer signs to confirm receipt, which gives both sides proof of what changed hands and in what condition.

Is a delivery note the same as an invoice?

No. The delivery note proves the goods were delivered and received. The invoice is the request for payment. They are linked but separate, and you should be able to match one to the other.

Why get the customer to sign?

A signature confirms the customer received the goods in good condition, which protects you if they later claim items were missing or damaged.

Do I need a delivery note for every sale?

For over-the-counter sales, a receipt is enough. Delivery notes matter when goods are transported to a customer separately, especially in bulk or business-to-business sales.
