Frequently asked questions

What is a cash book?

A cash book records every payment in and out of your business with a running balance. It is the foundation of your bookkeeping and tells you your real cash position at any time.

What should I record in a cash book?

Everything: sales, supplier payments, rent, wages, withdrawals and any other money in or out. Categorising each entry lets you see where your money actually goes.

How is a cash book different from a profit and loss?

A cash book tracks cash moving in and out. A profit and loss statement shows whether you made a profit over a period. You build the profit and loss from the categorised cash book.

Should personal and business money be in the same cash book?

No. Keep them separate. Mixing personal and business money makes it impossible to tell whether the business is profitable and complicates your records for KRA and lenders.

How does Veira help?

Veira records your sales and payments automatically and categorises them, so a clean cash book and the reports built on it come from your real trade rather than manual entry.
