This tool drafts text for you using AI at the edge. Nothing is generated until you press the button, and nothing you type is stored. Always read the draft before you use it: it is a starting point written from what you entered, not a finished document.

The subject line is most of the email

Most recipients decide whether to open from the subject line and the first few words of the preview, on a phone, in a list of forty other emails. Everything you wrote inside is downstream of that one line.

Length matters more than it sounds: a phone shows roughly 40 to 50 characters, so a subject that runs past that is read as a fragment. Writing several and picking is faster than trying to write the right one first.

What works for a Kenyan small business list

Plain statements of the offer beat clever ones. A list of your own customers already knows who you are, so the job of the subject is to say what is in the email, not to intrigue.

Avoid capitals and exclamation marks: they are a strong spam signal to filters and read as shouting to people. If there is a deadline, say the date rather than "last chance".

Worked examples

A stock clearance to existing customers, direct tone
  • "20% off everything until Friday"
  • "Your size is back in stock"
  • "Clearance ends Friday 28 November"
  • Each under 50 characters, so none is cut off on a phone

Frequently asked questions

How long should an email subject line be?
Under about 50 characters, because that is roughly what a phone shows before cutting it off. Longer subjects are read as fragments, and the part that gets cut is usually the part you cared about.
Do emojis in subject lines help?
For a small business list in Kenya they are more likely to hurt. They render inconsistently across devices, they read as marketing, and some filters treat them as a signal. This tool does not use them.
Why does the tool give me eight rather than one?
Because you cannot tell which subject line works by looking at it, and writing several takes no longer than agonising over one. Pick the one that fits, or split your list and send two.
Will a subject line in capitals get more opens?
No, and it costs you. Capitals and exclamation marks are among the oldest spam signals, so the email is more likely to be filtered before anyone decides whether to open it.
Should I mention the discount in the subject?
If there is one, yes. A list of your own customers is not browsing; they want to know what the email is about. Save the curiosity angle for lists that do not know you.
