More detail
Read the guarantee form before signing it. The questions to answer are what portion of your deposits is committed, for how long, what it does to your own ability to borrow meanwhile, whether you can be released and how, and what the process is if the borrower falls behind. Saccos answer these differently and all five are in the documents.
The same applies in reverse when you ask somebody. You are asking for their savings and their borrowing capacity, so give them the real numbers, and tell them early if your circumstances change. Members who learn from the Sacco rather than from the borrower that their deposits have been called usually never guarantee anyone again.
