KRA PIN Format Standards

KRA PINs are 14 characters: 1 letter + 8 digits + 3 letters. Individual PINs start with P, company PINs with A, partnerships with C. Example: P00123456ABC for an individual.

The PIN is unique to each taxpayer and used on all KRA submissions, eTIMS invoices, and compliance forms. A formatting error causes submission rejections and audit flags.

Finding Your KRA PIN

Your PIN was issued when you registered with KRA. It appears on your PIN certificate (physical copy from KRA). You can also find it on your last KRA return or by calling KRA: 0800 22 22 22.

If you've lost your PIN, contact KRA or use their online service at www.kra.go.ke to retrieve it. Never guess or create a PIN-KRA will reject it.

Frequently asked questions

What does each part of the PIN mean?

P/A/C = entity type. The 8 digits are sequential (assigned when you register). The 3 letters are derived from your name/business name. Together they're unique to you.

Can I have multiple KRA PINs?

No. Each business/individual gets one PIN. If you have multiple businesses, each is a separate entity with its own PIN.

What if I entered my PIN wrong in a form?

Contact KRA immediately or the institution (bank, eTIMS, etc.). They can update it in their system. KRA doesn't penalize honest mistakes.

Is my PIN private?

Yes. Like a social security number, keep it private. Don't share it publicly. It's required for official submissions, but not for casual purposes.

What if my PIN doesn't match my entity type?

This may indicate a registration issue. Contact KRA to verify your entity type (individual, company, partnership). They can correct it if needed.
