What is Net Salary?

Net salary is what an employee actually receives in their account after PAYE, SHIF, NSSF and AHL are deducted from gross pay.

A real Kenyan example

Gross 100,000 − NSSF 6,000 − SHIF 2,750 − AHL 1,500 − PAYE 19,308 ≈ Net 70,442 (Feb 2026 NSSF rates).

Formula

Net = Gross − NSSF − SHIF − AHL − PAYE (− pension and personal loans, if any)

Why it matters

Net is what funds employees’ lives. Errors here destroy trust.
