Kenya Inventory Shrinkage Calculator

Shrinkage = recorded stock − actual counted stock. Most Kenyan supermarkets sit at 1.5-2% of sales. Above 3% is a serious problem.

Where shrinkage comes from

Four main sources: staff theft, customer theft, supplier shortages (you paid for 100, received 95), and administrative errors (miscounted, miskeyed).

CCTV alone does not stop shrinkage. Tight POS receiving, cycle counts and proper supplier reconciliation do.

Frequently asked questions

How often should I count?
Cycle count fast-moving SKUs weekly. Full count monthly or quarterly.
Is shrinkage tax-deductible?
Yes, but you must have a documented stock count and provenance for the loss.
Does Veira detect shrinkage?
Yes. Veira flags every SKU whose recorded stock and sale flow disagree.
What is a normal supermarket rate?
About 1.5% of sales globally; Kenya is similar.
Can I prevent it entirely?
No. You can drive it under 1% with discipline.
